La ACMA (la autoridad australiana encargada de otorgar licencias) ha revisado recientemente su política de indicativos de radioaficionados. Uno de los resultados de esta revisión es que la Isla Heard ya no es VK0; ahora es VK9, al igual que otros Territorios Externos de Australia, como las Islas Cocos-Keeling y la Isla Christmas. Es probable que otras dos entidades del DXCC también se vean afectadas de manera similar, a saber, Lord Howe y Macquarie, ya que ninguna de ellas es un territorio externo. Más bien, la isla Lord Howe forma parte del estado de Nueva Gales del Sur (VK2) y la isla Macquarie es una parte periférica del estado de Tasmania (VK7).
El documento también establece que la ACMA sólo asignará ahora indicativos antárticos a radioaficionados con licencia que presten servicios en el Programa Antártico del Gobierno australiano. En otras palabras, cualquiera que esté pensando en realizar una futura expedición DX privada a Heard o Macquarie puede olvidarse de ello.
Todo esto se hace a puertas cerradas por abogados del Gobierno y con poco respeto por la tradición o la historia de la radioafición .
The ACMA (the Australian licensing authority) has recently reviewed its amateur radio callsign policy. One outcome of this review is that Heard Island is no longer VK0; it is now VK9, same as Australia’s other External Territories such as Cocos-Keeling Islands & Christmas Island. Two other DXCC entities are also likely to be similarly affected, namely Lord Howe and Macquarie, since neither are External Territories. Rather, Lord Howe Island is part of the state of New South Wales (VK2) and Macquarie Island is an outlying part of the state of Tasmania (VK7).
The document also states that the ACMA will now only assign Antarctic callsigns to licensed amateurs actively serving with the Australian Government’s Antarctic Program. In other words, anyone contemplating a future private DXpedition to Heard or Macquarie may as well forget it.
All done behind closed doors by Government lawyers with little regard for amateur radio tradition or history.
